Let’s face it, pumpkin spice nails were inevitable. We are officially in the season of all pumpkin everything. Last Thursday marked the first official day of fall (ahhhh…sweater weather), so we can finally slather our bodies with pumpkin-scented lotions, drink copious amounts of PSLs, highlight our cheeks with a chic orange glow, and dye our hair the ultimate fall color without feeling like it’s too soon. So I suppose it was only a matter of time before pumpkin spice made its way onto our fingertips, right? Thankfully, a nail-art blogger called twi_star—or the “artist” known as Angel, took one for the team. You could paint your nails a lovely brownish orange and call it PSL, but Angel literally coated her nails in pumpkin pie spice.
Before you go running to the spice rack to try it out, let me break down the process of achieving pumpkin spice nails for you. You probably will just want to stick with the first step, especially if you have asthma.
1. Angel started by painting her nails with two coats of OPI Venice Nail Lacquer Collection in It’s a Piazza Cake, a perfect pumpkin orange. (It’s actually the color of pumpkin pie, so decide whether you actually want your nails that hue.) She then applied a topcoat—we love theEssie Gel Setter Top Coat.
2. While the topcoat was still tacky, Angel scooped up a dime-size amount of McCormick Pumpkin Pie Spice with a fan brush and swept it onto one nail at a time. But halfway through, she starting choking (we think—she was coughing), so we recommend busting out a surgical mask if you’re going to try this technique. And no, we’re not kidding. Safety first, right?
And that’s it! But heads up: While Angel said her nails smelled delicious before she applied topcoat, we can’t imagine it smelled that good—I’m definitely not inhaling nail polish on the regular (slash ever). My advice? Instead, stick to these beauty products to fill the void.
