All of us dream of that day when we release our out-of-office notice forever. Just to settle in the sort of place for permanent vacation. So where do you go? Condé Nast Traveler did a survey including readers of age 68 and older about their most preferable places in the U.S. Questions included where they lived, which cities were safe and where the locals are the friendliest etc. As anticipated the places like Florida and California clearly made the cut—but were there any other places? Here’s our list of the sweetest corners to spend your retirement days.
Sedona in Arizona
Sedona is best for: warm weather; a vivid arts scene—this includes their annual film festival, also a monthly art tour, and several galleries that feature prominent local artists. Consider their affordable housing and the most tax-friendly states as well. When it comes to health there is an abundance of doctors, wellness centers, and other activities that promote healthy lifestyle. Not to mention that the surrounding environment is simply gorgeous.
Naples in Florida
Naples is best for it’s variety of activities. When it comes to livelihood you are free to pick between a personal stucco mansion, or maybe a sweet condo with those waterfront views, or possibly a gated retirement community in the area. All for an amazing access to Florida’s west coast and lovely strolls on the pier.
Carmel-by-the-Sea in California
Best known for perfecting your golf swing and all the golden beaches and delightful forest hiking trails. Consider the proximity to pinot and chardonnay vineyards an extra bonus. There’s a rather healthy population of seniors who love enjoying that good life.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Best known for its artsy retirees and perfect strolls in various galleries. Amazing for shopping, investigating Museum Hill and other vibrant activities. To complement your easy street living there approximately 300 sunny days each year. 20 percent of the population are people of 65 and over, so you should be able to easily make some friends.
Asheville in North Carolina
Best known for healthy living that is being promoted virtually on every corner. Plenty of nearby universities propel the youthful spirit and energy. Consider golfing at the Omni Grove Park Inn or hiking through the Blue Ridge Mountains, or even kayaking at Lake Junaluska.
